I feel like I keep forgetting that Jay-Z was also at the JAY-Z and Beyoncé concert.....but anyways...BEYONCÉ. I have never been more excited to see someone live before in the whole entirety of my life. I felt myself becoming every fan girl I've ever despised when she walked out on that stage and all of the sudden I had succumbed to the One Direction loving little girl instinct in my body - it was the most awful yet exhilarating sensation and I wondered so much in that very moment how I had the capacity to be so lame. But it only took one look, one booty-poppin dance routine, one angelic perfectly-pitched run (all happening simultaneously at once, mind you) to validate it all.
But truthfully, I love her because of what she symbolizes to people like me; what it looks like to be empowered as an entertainer, an artist, and most importantly a woman. Many people may not understand her womanhood or her sexuality, and I for one could never speak for her, but there's something that clicks for me when I see her in front of these masses of people who stand in awe...she is a moving force, undefinable yet everyone feels its presence. Imperfect and unapologetic, brave and empathetic, seductive and unrelenting. She isn't a god or even a queen. She is a woman that every girl should not be afraid to be, and one that every man should not be afraid to be with.
I love Beyonce because she makes me love being a woman. She doesn't have to fit anyone's stereotypes or preconceived definitions of how a woman should be...she just stands there with graceful defiance and resonates - without having to say a word. And the world cheers when they hear her.
